João Magalhães

Pata Gorda

Chef João Magalhães is a native of Porto whose culinary identity was formed in the rural traditions of Trás-os-Montes. After academic pursuits in Biology and Hotel Management, he discovered his true calling in professional kitchens.

He is known for crafting a distinctive, straightforward, and indulgent style of Portuguese cuisine, free from prejudice. He first showcased this vision as the chef leading Restaurante Manso in Porto.

His creative maturity is fully realized in his own project, Pata Gorda. Here, he presents his philosophy of "comfort cooking with technique"—a celebration of tradition reinterpreted for the contemporary table, centered on deep flavor, generous sharing, and the genuine pleasure of the meal.
